Default Where to go from here? bourbon Van Winkle

So, for a couple years now I've stayed away from bourbon due to finding how good scotch is. Well, this year I got lucky & picked up a bottle of Van Winkle 12 Lot B.

All I had to do to know I was going to open this bottle is see everyone on here trying to make a fast buck on their recent pappy purchases. This only perpetuates the problem of Pappy making it more rare because people are trying so hard to get it just to make a few bucks rather than buy it to enjoy.

When I opened the bourbon section just to see it littered with Van Winkle that many want to enjoy, but now must pay an even higher price if they couldn't get their hands on a bottle from a retailer. Shame on those who are joining in this mentality. I actually had the opportunity to buy 3 bottles of Pappy this year but I only bought one so that others could also enjoy some. I was contemplating keeping it for a special occasion, but then remembered I could be taken from this world at any moment. No way I'm going out without trying this Whiskey.

Anyway,
The reason behind this post is that this bottle has reminded me that bourbon can hold its own with some scotch. This VW is simply put, the best bourbon I've ever had. Granted I've probably only tried 30 or so bourbons. Until now I had all but given up on bourbon and have expanded my scotch selection to more than double the size of my bourbon collection. By collection I mean bottles I pour drams from, not bottles that just sit on the shelf.

Where do I go from here? Thus far the only "bourbon" to come anywhere close to this particular VW that I've tried is Genteman Jack in my opinion.

If you like Van Winkle 12, get a hold of Weller 12 if it's in your area... Esentially the same bourbon

Also around that same age is Elijah Craig 12

Four Roses Single Barrel is phenomenal as is Elmer T. Lee and great values

Nashville Mash has you pointed in the right direction. If you like a little more proof Old Weller Antique and Old Granddad 114 are great bourbons that won't break the bank. If you want to dabble in the rye field try Rittenhouse BiB.
