Default Balvenie Single Barrel 15 year

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if this is truly discontinued? If so, I may have to pick up another bottle.....

I just saw six bottles of it the other day and know that another store in town has it as well, so at very least, even if discontinued, there's some out there yet.

Maybe I need to pick up another one for myself as well.

I know... I may need to pick another one up anyway being that they are $68 a bottle!

For that price I'd easily grab two, as they're either $95 or $120 here.

Not much gone out of my first bottle, but I definitely like this stuff and in order to have backups of all my faves, picked up another 15 Single Barrel today.

The guy at the store didn't even know anything about it being slated for discontinuation and they've still got plenty, but I'm not waiting to find I can't get it anymore.

I did not know they where discounting it, I just grabbed 2 bottles last week. Might have to grab 2 more. I have really been enjoying the bottle I opened.

I took a good part of the day today to visit several liquor stores. I was on a mission to find some Japanese whisky's.
I did find several but also found a small out of the way store that had these.
Check out those prices.
He said they have more in the back room. I said I'll be back.

I added a few more Japanese whisky's to the collection today too.

Also bought these.

My wallet looks like it went on a crash diet. Wish I could get that thin that easy

Went back and purchased two more. I'll check back again tomorrow.
He said he bought these about three years ago and didn't change the price since. He knows they are worth more than $54.99.
One of the two I picked up on my second visit has the old label and tube bottled in "04".
Then he started to wheel and deal on old stuff on the shelf that had sticker prices of say $150.00 and said he'll take $99.00 for them.
I'll be checking these out too.
Ya just never know what you can run into so check them all out. I think I found a gem here.
Weird thing is I was looking for Japanese whisky and this guy (store owner) is Japanese and didn't have one Japanese whisky in the whole store.

The fascist states of Idaho & Oregon (controlled selection and prices) & Washington (coo coo high taxes) are my range. Montana also has high prices on everything.
I need an excuse to drive to Cal. I'd bring back $2k worth.

I might have to drive to Cali myself...I was so annoyed off at my inability to order anything from the U.K. (i.e. TWE or other Scottish retailers) and have it shipped to Maine that I e-mailed my state senator to complain. Got a "Dear John" letter from some random staffer that basically stated it's illegal to import stuff here (a bunch of b.s. imho), so I sent a rather trenchant reply. But they probably don't give a rat's patooty, and Maine's sadly lacking in a higher-end malt fanatic community that could get together and lobby for an end to this goddawful control-state thing. So there we have it (-or don't have it, to be more exact)

Great score, all across the board there. I'd love to happen across a batch of the 15 at that price.

As for your Japanese selection, the Taketsuru 12 is one that doesn't belong with the rest of them, but it'll be interesting to hear what you think of it.

Peat,
I see what you mean about the Taketsuru 12. It's not on par with the others but I'm not going to pour in down the sink. I can drink it because it is not the worst I had either. Maybe it's because my nose is plugged with allergies this time of year.
Nose of turpentine (must be strong if it can get thru this plugged nose). Taste is light with an alcohol burn which is surprising as it's only 40 percent.
Finish is sweet, a little wood, light peat and a little more turpentine.
At $50.00 I would not give it a best buy but I am glad I tried it. It just makes all the others really stand out.
Did you noticed I fixed the photo????

I picked these up while I was at the same store. The store owner offered me a large discount as there were marked close to @ $200.00 each. Said I'll take $99.00 each. So I went out on a limb and bought them.
The chivas is a gift for the brother in law. that was $67.00.
I also picked up three more Balvenie 15 YO at $55.00.
You only live once.

Balvenie 15 is some of my favorite. The 12 and 15 yr single barrels are both consistently in my rotation.

If you look at Balvenie's web site the 15 has been replaced by another 15 that has been aged in Oloroso Sherry casks. I say replaced because if you look at the Archive the old 15 is not there so they still have the 15 but it is completely different taste wise than the old 15.
