Default Balvenie Tun 1509 batch 2

Anyone know much about it? Think it will be worth the price? I'm a big fan of Balvenie and I'm thinking hard about dropping the 376.00cdn to bring one home

Can it be compared to anything? Or is it a much different animal?

I think "worth" will be in the eye of the beholder. What to one person is a ridiculous sum for a bottle of anything, will be a bargain for someone else.

Perhaps a more direct answer your question: if I had the funds I would not hesitate to buy a bottle.

I paid $350 for last year's Batch 1, but I have yet to taste it. Why? I'm still trying to decide if I want to drink it, or hold on for a few years and see what (if anything) happens to the value of it.

If you're a member of Warehouse 24, you've already seen Dave Stewart's comments on Batch 2:

Quote:
David Stewart says that batch two “…offers a distinctly different taste from batch one.” On the nose, it is luscious with aromas of honey, orange peel, sweet oak vanilla and a delicate ginger spiciness. To taste it is richly sweet, combining elegant honey with tangy citrus and gentle vanilla, overlain with subtle notes of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
I haven't yet decided if I'm going to buy a bottle of Batch 2. Spending that much is a stretch for my limited funds. We'll see...

I agree. It's very hard for me to pay 376 for a bottle, I'm not sure if I even want to open. As much as I'd love to enjoy a dram or two say every Christmas and Easter. The potential value it may hold down the road has me thinking twice. I've never been a fan of holding on to a bottle.

This one may be different.

I finally decided to open and taste Batch 1. I'm not a collector, and there's no point in my pretending to be.

Without going into tedious details, Tun 1509 Batch 1 is a very good whisky. It is complex and nuanced, both nosing and on the palate. No strong flavors jump out; rather, it's a unique and well balanced gentle harmony of many flavors, sip after sip. One review I read called it "delicate" and I can agree with that.

I think Balvenie has done a fine marketing job ratcheting up the anticipation of this limited annual release. As good as it is, for me it's overpriced. No regrets buying it, though I don't think I'll try to buy any subsequent releases. (Yes, that's a shift from a statement I made earlier in this thread, having now tasted it.) This bottle will last quite a while, and I'll enjoy each sip.
