Default How About Some Bourbon Porn?

I know, stemless red wine glass, not snifter. I need a cigar and a real glass ashtray (and maybe a second glass). BTW, that is tea. No bourbon was harmed in the filming of this porn.

NOLAGT, that's some bourbon porn!!! Haven't seen the Weller 12 with the wheat stalks on the bottle for awhile now. Question: I noticed the open bottle of Hirsch 20 year American Whisk(e)y, what are your thoughts? Have not cracked mine open yet.

Not sure if it matters but they are 1L not 750ML?

I enjoy it...its been a little while since I had any so I cant really compare it to anything. When I couldn't find anymore I cut back on my sampling...

Could be, all mine are 750s, I figured it was older stock. I pick it up when traveling as they don't sell it here

I may delve into my bottle soon. I was wondering if it was going to be heavy on oak due to age, or light due to 2nd use barrels. It would have been nice to see it bottled at a little higher on the proof but should be an easy drinker.

Yea I bet its the difference between the 750 and 1L.

Thanks DCBT...I need to get a current family pic. Some have come and gone but overall I think there's more than the first group pic.

How did you come into all that NOLAGT? I'm still utterly impressed. Frankly, I'm pleased with what I have, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to that arsenal.

Hitting stores locally and out of town...some trades...few secondary market purchases. I drink on it all slowly with frinds at times too. Some things like the angels envy and weller 107 I got some for me and for a few friends...group order...they don't sell AE in louisiana yet.

As someone who has actual experience drinking all of these, which would you say would still be considered exceptional even if they were commonly available, and of those, are any of them reasonably affordable?

I would have to say my top ones would be wlw stagg and the pappys. I say the pappys because I love them all but to me I like them in date order 23 being the one I like the most. I think if they were all easy to get I think the best value is the wlw and stagg because of the flavor and there proofs. I like the high proof stuff. The pappy 12 and 15 are releasable price when you can get it at msrp price and are very good...but I would still pick the wlw and stagg over them. In all honestly if I had to pick just one...it would be hard but it might be wlw because of the flavor and price and proof....altho I love the stagg too.

That's a great tip, and I appreciate your ability to be so forthcoming with a flavor based recommendation. So the one I've never even heard of, W.L. Weller is one I'll have to be keeping an eye out for. What's it usually run?

Guess I'll be looking for the Stagg too.

I love the wheated bourbons and thats what wlw and the pappys are. If you can find them at regular price they are $80 usually. But you have to get to know someone at your stores and jockey your position on a list to get some...or pay triple on the 2nd market these days. Seems to be going up each year sadly.

Another good one that I usualy have on hand and that are easier to get are the EH taylor line...the small batch can be had for 30something and should be everywhere...the barrel proof packs a punch and is about 70-80.

One of these bottles will soon be gracing my bar. Bottled in '43, distilled in '36. I hope to look this good at 70.

Not sure of it's value, but I got it at what I think was a good price. He had multiple bottles of bourbon and scotch from the 30's thru 60's. I picked up the Weller as it's my favorite pour and I've been looking for an old style bottle for display on the bar. Sad part is that it was easier to find a 70 year old bottle of Weller than it is to find a WLW in my neck of the woods.

The fill level is not too bad and it does not appear to be oxidized so one day I very well might. Great bourbon needs to be drank, heck all bourbon needs to be drank.

Usually stickies are reserved for important information instead of show but I sure like those Glencairns!

I got some of the cut Glencairns, and while I love holding them and playing with the cuts, the clear Glencairns are so nice to look at while swirling your drink around in them, and the etched ones don't get in the way of the view.

Those must be from a place you visit regularly?

Congrats. That's the most amazing collection I have seen. I agree with you that the Weller is the best of the BTAC. Of the pappy, I rank them 23 down in order to the ten. I was happy to get a few bottles but oh my, you cleaned up!!

I just took a look at the cut ones...I can see how it would interfere with looking at it. The etched ones do not block any view...the bourbon has a nice warm glow to it like it was in my belly lol. Its a place I have gone to a few times...im from new orleans but have since moved away. Bourbon house is a restaurant/oyster bar that has a pretty substantial bourbon menu. That are the glasses you get your pours in and if you want the glass you pay $5 for it. So 20 for a set of 4 seems like a pretty good price.

I need to get a updated pic of it all together...just have to wait till the wife isn't home lol.

Nolagt, that Single Barrel John Bowman is a beautiful bourbon, and at $40-50 it is hard to beat.

A well kept secret and one of Sazeracs best bourbons IMO.

Just snagged two ECBPs myself tonight too! Sipping it straight is a great experience but a splash of water in a glass sitting for an hr is ridiculous!

I just walked into a store in a small Kansas town and bought the following:
1. High West Bourye
2. Wild Turkey American Spirit 15 yr
3. Thomas H. Handy x 2
4. Black Maple Hill 16 yr
5. Vintage 23 yr rye

I should probably quit while I'm ahead.

How is this even possible. Was this place in a hidden bunker of some sort.

Congrats

Nolagt, you lost track of the site but, you surely did not lose sight of a single liquor stores in that time period .. Awesome!! I love it!! Good to see you found the new address and are back as well!!

I have been enjoying a bottle of the bookers 25th, and thanks, in large part to the good folks on this site, I was able to pick up a few of them (wont be released in my neck of the woods until later this month or early april).

Never got a chance to buy Jefferson's 30.. Picked up the rest, just not that one.

Here is most of the bottles I have in my mini-bar at the house. I need to bunker some of these, get em out of my home bar but, this is about how much I keep on hand for company to sip or drink on.

When or if you ever find yourself in houston you are more than welcome to come on by .

Son of Sod, its not that expensive to stock up on some bourbon and other whiskies. Cheaper than Smoking and even the "poor" do that .

I am also not afraid of a 15-25 dollar bottle, and thats the type of whiskies I often sip on, so for me, that free's up money for limited, annual and special releases. I do have a whiskey budget, that I often go over, so in that sense I am very fortunate.

Wow. I am beyond jealous. All I can ever afford is a single bottle of Jack Daniels Old No 7 and maybe Single Barrel on rare occasions.
