Default This Year's Haul from Minneapolis

(1) Balvenie Single Barrel 12 $56
(1) Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Sherry Cask $95
(2) Springbank 10 $48
(1) Old Pulteney 12 $39.50
(1) Old Pulteney 17 $97
(1) Compass Box The Peat Monster $48
(1) Laphroaig 10 $36
(1) Glenmorangie (Original) $28
(1) Ardbeg 10 $42

Disclaimer:
When I saw the dust on the Balvenie S.B. 15 Sherry Cask boxes in Morelli's I thought it was the old stuff (bourbon barrel). I realized shortly after I bought it, I got the wrong stuff.
I was looking for the Compass Box TPM in Total Wine when an employee asked if he could help. Told him I was looking for CBTPM and when he finally found it I figured I better get it since it was quite a hunt.
I've been passing over the Glenmorangie Original for years now so when I saw the price I figured I'd give it a try.

(I also got a bunch of French brandy and Tequila from Total Wine there and in New Jersey but I can't talk about that on a Whisky forum )

Total Wine is taking over the entire Minneapolis metropolitan area. New stores are popping up all the time. I think once they dominate the area and shoppers become familiar with their locations the prices will rise.

... time for a dram of Glenfarclas 12.

Really looking forward to hearing if you agree that the Peat Monster tastes like Ardbeg 10 but for that price it was definitely worth picking up.

About the Balvenie Single Barrel 15 Sherry Cask, I have one right next to the
original and I like them both, so no mistake there!

... a sigh of relief.
I'm not a fan of the big sherry bombs (A'Bunadh) so I hope this one isn't over the top, but then again Balvenie would be hard pressed in my book to make something mediocre.

Nice haul!! I see several that are on my "try" list...the Old Pulteneys in particular.

Don't hold it against me if you don't like it, but I sure do and I'm another who didn't like the A'Bunadh.

Visited family in SC this weekend, so that also meant a stop at Total Wine. The only Old Pulteney they carry in Columbia is the 12, but apparently out of stock, so I went down my "try" list and picked up a Bowmore 12, Balvenie DoubleWood 12 , and an Aberlour 16.

Also picked up a couple each of my favorite brews: Schneider Aventinus, Trappistes Rochefort 8 and their 10.

The Bowmore 12 is quite expensive there. The Balvenie DW 12 ain't cheap, and I'm not familiar with the Aberlour price.
What is the sales tax on liquor in SC?

Sales tax is 6 or 7 %, and there are added taxes on liquor. I threw my receipt away and don't remember the rates, but I think it's 9% surtax.

The Bowmore is same price at home in NC. DoubleWood and Aberlour are both slightly less at TW in SC than NC. Aberlour 16 was $69.95. Definitely not bargains.
