Default Opened the Kilchoman Machir Bay

It certainly smells like a peaty Islay. When I sip I get a decent burst of pleasant flavor up front but it rather quickly fades and all too soon the big, harsh alcohol burn finish takes over and fades slowly.

I'll have to get more acquainted with it over time but at this stage of the game it's NOT on my buy again list.
I think the Peat Monster is a better dram. I think it needs another 5 years in the cask to pick up more flavor and mellow that killer alcohol burn.

I don't know which one I had but I tried a Kilchoman a couple years ago and remember not really caring for it.

I am beginning to like this malt more as I drink it on a somewhat regular basis. It has a nice, clean, spicy flavor but that alcohol burn is still a distraction.

I believe the alcohol burn is mellowing now that the bottle has been opened for a while and has air on the whisky.

Had this one a few years ago. Very good. I think it similar to a young Highland Park 18.

I had some Kilchoman 10th Anniversary. I thought it was pretty good.
