If you have a feel for how long it's been around, that will be a good indication unless it is very, very old. Is it open? If it is open, I would suggest sampling it. Whisky is made to be consumed....

You might want to try Lavagulin 16 year old. Lovely body! Sneaks up on you, so exercise extreme caution! Lol. Had a dram on Thanksgiving...ah, make that two, hmmmm, maybe it was three!

You might want to try Dalwhinnie...it is also a Highland Whisky....

I currently have both and really like them. The Oban seems just a tiny bit more "biting" if you will. I usually mix about one...

I have my Whisky for dessert, nearly every night. Great nightcap, soothing and comforting. I have tried several single malts and several blended, but I am still searching that "one" perfect desert...
