Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about this Haig Dimple decanter I have. The bottom of the bottle is marked "A 660 R 13 Haig's UGB" I have photos, but I can't find a way to attach the images to this post or copy them on directly. It is made from Mexican silver and also has a stamp that it was made in Mexico City. I would appreciate any information anyone might have. Thank you |

If you're certain that it's Mexican silver then it's an aftermarket silver cover that s been applied to a normal bottle to make a decanter. This happened a lot in Central America and was most likely for the tourists.
If it was original [and I've never known of it] then it would have been hallmarked with either Glasgow or Edinburgh assay marks as well as a makers mark. Normally something like this is only for the most expensive whiskies not standards or 12 year olds |

Thanks for the help. That sounds like a pretty good explanation of why it has mexican silver on a whisky bottle. Still a neat decanter though, just not worth as much as I would have liked. Thanks again!
