Default What are your worst whiskies?

Tried the Dallas Dhu 12 yr old today and it is possibly the only whisky I have tipped out. The most disgusting whisky I have tried.

What is on your "Do not drink list"?

There are many blends on my "do not drink" list but few single malts. The single malts that are on the list are from independent bottlers. A rather terrible 8yr Highland Park from Gordon and MacPhail comes to mind as the worst but as a rule, most scotch single malts, distillery or independent, are rather tasty.

Here are a few borderline Distillery Bottlings of Single Malts
Bowmore 17
Tomatin 12
Octomore 2_140 Edition 02.1

The one that immediately sprung to mind was the Black Bottle, which is the only one that I can recall not having finished.

Nadurra

Bowmore 12 (I got the bottle out again and am being honest this time, to me it tastes like Scotch flavored koolaid, a powdered mix... just add water and alcohol)

HP 12 (although drinkable)

Clynelish 14 (although drinkable)

Don't care for A'bunadh neat but think it makes an interesting blend with Ardbeg 10.

I am with yah. My first bottle balvenie 15 was an old one (19 yrs from barrel to bottle) and I bought it due to the age. It was alright but not mind blowing . The current release (which is the last) is stellar; tons of honey, oak, super long sweet cognac like finish with that good burn maybe white pepper finish? Awesome stuff....

Good Golly Miss Molly, that only reinforces my lust for this one, now I just have to get past that big price tag!!

Oh my, Boxcar!! Those are some pretty good, albeit standard, bottlings. It all comes down to one's personal palate, tho'...

Does ANYONE like Dallas Dhu, to drink? (Other than some collectors, I mean.)

I guess... I think Balvenie DW12, & Ardbeg 10 are divine while the Nadurra is a fast ride straight to hell. The HP12 is completely boring.

Indeed, for me the Nadurra is top notch (Bill, i wonder if you have a corked or 'off' bottle) as is the Ardbeg 10. I agree the HP12 isn't much, but i find the Balvenie DW one of the worst standard releases there is.

We must be wary about judging a distillery on the strength or weakness of one or two bottlings.

My worst whisky ever was a Gordon & Macphail Cask Strength Series Old Pulteney 58%, my notes were just -- fireworks, swamp gas, stagnant ditch water, and rusty nails, no redeeming features at all, i couldn't even find any whisky flavours. A badly selected cask from a good distillery by an independent bottler. There were many sulphured casks from G&M at that time, obviously one of the cask selectors simply couldn't detect it.

Of the standard stuff, Jura Origins, Jura Superstition, and Singleton Of Dufftown all stand out as substandard.

Certainly possible the Glenlivet Nadurra I have is an anomaly but I'd easily put money on it not being so.
The DW12 is an under $50/btl offering, but for me it's one of the best bangs for the buck.
At present I'll avoid all Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Bowmore whiskys as future experimental tries. Wouldn't reject a dram from a friend though.
Wish there was a catapult big enough. I'd use it to flip the rest of my Nadurra at ya.

P.S. Do you like bourbon? I've tried to like bourbon many times and finally told a friend "If the French made this it would probably be pretty good". The best I've ever had though was Knob Creek. Also like Oro Aņejo tequila & Armagnac (but only after a meal with wine).
